Taps for manual thread cutting

The VÖLKEL hand taps made from HSS(G) are suitable for non abrasive and good to machine materials up to 900 N/mm². The version in HSSE is used for threading materials up to 1200 N/mm² and the stream tempered hand taps are especially suitable for thread cutting of wear-resistant steels (VA materials) up to 1400 N/mm² tensile strength.

Hand Taps acc. to DIN Standard

The taps can be distinguished by their cutting edge and marking. The sets for coarse threads contain 3-pieces and for fine threads 2-pieces. The rougher are marked with one ring on their shank and the intermediate taps with two rings. The finishing taps are marked with no ring.

• Rougher = 6-8 Thread leads
• Intermediate = 4-5 Thread leads
• Finisher = 2-3 Thread leads

⚠️ It is recommended to use the finisher on its own only for re-tapping or for cleaning of damaged threads. The rougher, intermediate and finishing taps can each be ordered separately. Please note that rougher and intermediate taps do not cut a full thread.

Hand Taps acc. to ISO & JIS Standards

The tap sets acc. to ISO & JIS standards also have different thread leads but, unlike the taps acc. to the DIN standard, all can be used directly as finisher. Therefore, there is no additional marking on the shank of the taps.
